It is understood that 'Sidney Hall (1788�1831) was a British engraver and cartographer well known and popular for his early nineteenth century atlases containing maps of the United Kingdom and of the ancient world reproduced from Hall's engravings. Hall made engravings for a number of international atlases at a time when cartography and atlases were very popular.' Undated, c1863 from inscription. Old rebind in black cloth with gilt lettering to spine reading 'Atlas'. Scarce. Boards have some staining, hint of damp. Corners are bumped, as is top & tail of spine. Patterned end pages are darkened, particularly to edges. Blank page to front creased and slightly torn. Previous owner's mark to early blank. 46 maps all as called for, some folding, all with boundaries coloured. Folding maps of Scotland slightly pulled from binding leading to slight edge markings.
