Volume bound in red cloth. Covers faded, particularly at spine. Corners bumped, as are top and bottom of spine. Spine covering has parted from the rear board and is hanging. Rear inner hinge is cracked. Blue stains across spine. FFEP, RFEP, half-title page and frontispiece are missing. Some plates are missing, though map at rear is present. Title page is grubby. Reverse of title page and following page have previous owner's marks. Binding very loose. Text block cracked at pages 128/129. A good reading copy of a scarce and unusual volume.
