Inscribed by author to May Whitehead, presumably his wife. Contains pasted in cutting from Daily News 12 VIII 1861, review of Village Sketches. Beige leather boards with gilt lettering to front and spine. Boards are marked and generally grubby. Boards show some fading, especially around the edges. Corners bumped and worn. Slight wear to board edges. Spine has bumping to top and bottom. Most of spine label is missing. Top of spine is pulled. Marbled endpages. Front inner hinge is threatening to crack. Textblock is starting to crack. Some slight foxing to the textblock. 110 pp. When securely packed this item will weigh in the region of 375g. (YBP Ref: 023344:1-N8)
