The contents page of this volume lists five papers but the book actually contains seven. Listed are 'A Re-Investigation into the Early Stages of the Development of the Rabbit', 'On the Phenomenon of the Fusion of the Epiblastic Layers in the Rabbit and in the Frog', 'On the Causes which lead to the Attachment of the Mammalian Embryo to the Walls of the Uterus', 'The Primitive Streak of the Rabbit; the Causes which may determine its Shape, and the Part of the Embryo formed by its Activity' and 'On the Growth in Length of the Frog Embryo'. Not listed are 'Notes on the Ciliation of the Ectoderm of the Amphibian Embryo' and 'The Segmentation of the Ovum of the Sheep, with Observations of the Hypothesis of the Hypoblastic Origin for the Trophoblast'. Brown/marbled quarter cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine titled simply 'Embryological Papers'. Boards are rubbed but otherwise in good order. Slight bumping to corners. Spine has bumping to ends. Some foxing to endpages. Textblock is in good condition, clean and tight. Previous owner's bookplate to fep. Previous owner's mark to title page.
