Full title reads 'Voyage of the US Exploring Squadron commanded by Captain Charles Wilkes of the United States Navy in 1838, 1839, 1840, 1841, and 1842 together with Explorations and Discoveries made by Admiral D'Urville, Captain Ross, and other Navigators and Travellers and an Account of the Expedition to the Dead Sea, Under Lieutenant Lynch.' Rebound in brown cloth boards with gilt lettering to spine. Boards are generally in good order. No particular bumping or wear to corners or edges. Spine is intact and bright with a little bumping to the top. Tape marks to the endpapers. Text block is tanned and foxed. Bookplate from Kenn Back (1942-, Meteorologist for the British Antarctic Survey and descendant of the Arctic explorer Captain George Back). 517 pp + adverts.
